X Ambassadors Cover J.Cole's "Power Trip"

Brooklyn's indie rock group X Ambassadors try their hand covering J.Cole's radio hit "Power Trip."

Brooklyn’s X Ambassadors have had a busy year. After signing with KIDinaKORNER/Interscope and entering the majors, they’ve also been touring with radio killers Imagine Dragons and recorded and released their initial EP Love Songs Drugs Songs. But all that wasn’t enough to keep them busy. Drawing on a self-professed deep-seated love for hip-hop and R&B, the group have now released a cover of J.Cole‘s Miguel-featuring summer jam “Power Trip.

Their neo-soul and funky rhythms add dimensions to the song without robbing it of its original emotion, and the additional echoing harmonies almost rival Miguel’s original crooning. Plus, the washed-out refrain of the song the guys have tacked onto the end feels like the after-effects of actually staying up all night. Stream the cover below courtesy of The Music Ninja.
