Over production from Boi-1da and The Maven Boys, Vic Mensa dropped new track “Time is Money” featuring fellow Chicago rapper MMG member Rockie Fresh and Kenyan/Swedish singer Beldina. Mensa shines on the track with a sing-song flow and singular rhythms—especially here, it’s easy to hear the similarities to his SAVEMONEY crew member Chance the Rapper.
Rockie shows up in the second half of the track, but his verse pales in comparison to the vocal gymnastics that Mensa pulls off. Beldina’s croons lace the track with a softness that contrasts with the heavy subject matter—the chorus sums it all up: “Make money / but the money you make / don’t make you.” The song will be on Vic’s next tape INNANETAPE which is slated to drop later this year.
