Magnus Bohman, one of the founders of Imperial Recordings (José González’ original label from Sweden), has started a new label, Dumont Dumont, and the first artist to release music on this label is RY X. RY X is originally from Australia but now living in Los Angeles, and the title track to his upcoming release is stunning.
Like José González or Bon Iver, RY X’s “Berlin” draws its power from emotive moments that spring from a soft backdrop. There’s not much going on behind the vocals, but the empty space and gentle acoustic accompaniment make that melody even more striking.
The Berlin EP with RY X will be released both as vinyl and as a full digital release on August 28.
