The legal battle between Robin Thicke and the family of Marvin Gaye is far from over. Thicke has been catching heat for his alleged appropriation of Gaye’s 1977 funk smash “Got To Give It Up” for his own “Blurred Lines.” The American R&B stalwart first attempted to nip what must have seemed inevitable in the bud by preemptively suing to protect “Blurred Lines” from legal action.
But no dice. When that failed, Thicke’s team approached the Gaye family with a monetary settlement, a six-digit figure that the family summarily rejected today. Though they have yet to launch a suit of their own against Thicke, Frankie Christian Gaye, Marvin Gaye III and Nona Marvisa Gaye have left the door open and alluded to future action.
