Portugal. The Man’s slow absorption into the world of electronica continues today with a remix of “Purple Yellow Red and Blue.” The deed is done by London’s Ben Ash aka Two Inch Punch, and he does well to stay within grasp of the original, keeping Danger Mouse’s production as the track’s centerpiece.
Instead, the beat is passed through an electronic filter—guitars and bass are swapped for processed wind chimes and a deep swirling synth, filling out the sound with sustain and echo. The sassy cool is still there, though, and the track swings as if the Portugal boys just swapped their flannels for parachute pants and some high-top fades.
