Governors Ball boasted an impressive line-up—Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, The xx, Crystal Castles, Nas, and plenty more from all genres—but the real story of Governors Ball 2013 is of the mud. For better or worse, it made the festival one of the most memorable of the year, and the sense of community that comes with any good festival feels a lot more powerful when you’re barefoot, six inches deep in mud that smells like old beer with a touch of feces.
We’re still cleaning out the dried mud from under our fingernails, but to get a feel for what Governors Ball looked like, we collected some images of the mess.
