“Her Favorite Song” makes sense. All the pieces are there. It’s a bit of updated soul complete with a catchy chorus, guest vocals from one of the hottest/most talented artists out, production by Oak of Pop & Oak (Drake, Nicki Minaj, Britney Spears, Chris Brown), and even a sassy and repetitive “shake it” section of the song for when you just feel like turning the volume up and letting loose. But something about this feels, unfortunately, a little soulless aside from the Jessie contribution. Even the concept is stale, and although this will surely be loved by fans and perfectly palatable to anyone who hits play, it’s hard to imagine it being anyone’s favorite song.
