Ben Garrett (aka the man behind Fryars) isn’t a stranger to putting his delicate electronic touches on some of indie rocks’ best songs; he previously transformed Local Natives’ hit “Heavy Feet” into a gauzy electo-pop production. This time he reworks Alt-J’s “Dissolve Me”, adding high-pitched chimes, hazy synths and a different drum pattern to the song. Most interestingly though, is that Fryars chooses to also include an applause track that sounds like it was taken from a live television show. With these unique touches, Fryars manages to flip an already excellent track into something entirely different without losing the aspects that made “Dissolve Me” so good in the first place. And if this is the kind of result he can obtain with others’ work, we can’t wait to hear what’s to come on his own upcoming album.
