From the beginning, we’ve known Frank Ramz can go in lyrically. That was never a question, but with this one it feels like he’s reached a breaking point. He delivers intensely and directly, but despite fiery words, he keeps it composed, thoughtful, and deliberate. His composure mixed with that haunting “Strange Fruit” sample makes “Icons” loom with a heavy urgency only given more weight by Black History Month.
