In 1999/2000, director Paul Thomas Anderson and producer/artist Jon Brion (Fiona Apple, Kanye West) were planning a show for VH1 called The Jon Brion Show.
Even though the show never launched, the pilot was filmed, and in it Jon Brion and Elliott Smith perform some of Elliott’s classics like “Son of Sam” and “Bottle Up and Explode” as well as a few covers including John Lennon’s “Jealous Guy” and the Kinks’ “Waterloo Sunset.” The VHS quality doesn’t come close to tarnishing the enjoyability of the beautiful performance.
