Despite a lot of talk about the failing, desperate music industry and the inability of artists to sell music in 2012, things aren’t looking as ugly as you might expect. The decline of record sales remains a slow, steady fall, but the music industry did not jump out the window in 2012. At least, not in the United States.
According to Soundscan data, album sales for 2012 are coming in at around 4% below 2011 levels (includes both physical and digital). Downloads rose by about 6%.
