Hip-hop is getting weirder, but not too many artists take it to the extreme. On one end of the spectrum you’ve got Lil B, who has basically turned himself into a meme/cult leader through his blend of the goofy and the positive. Death Grips is one of the other most extreme acts right now, but they’re operating as far from Lil B as possible, and pushing so far that it’s hard to really call this hip-hop at all.
Instead of the meme-ish, goofy approach, Death Grips is half military bootcamp and half horror movie, and The Money Store turns out to be what may be one of the hardest albums to listen to that you’ll actually want to hear. They’ve offered the whole thing for streaming on Soundcloud, so check it out below, and look out for it to drop on April 24th.
