Perfume Genius’ debut album, Learning, was the kind of record that was so bare and painful that it was hard to listen to. From what I’ve heard of his follow-up the same could be said, except on this time the songs are even prettier. Mike Hadreas has emerged as this confessional songwriter who’s really not afraid to let it all out there, often to great effect. As tough as the last record was to get into, I’m really excited to have Put Your Back N 2 It in rotation as soon as possible, which is actually right now thanks to The Guardian. If you’ve never listened to Perfume Genius before, do yourself a favor and start off with “Hood.” It’s an incredible song.
