Future Islands, a Baltimore synth-rock outfit, have been on my radar for a while now. The lead singer, Samuel T. Herring, has one of those unconventional voices that sound weird on first listen, but are really hard not to pay close attention to. That, plus the fantastic, synthy backdrops the rest of the band turns out makes for a very solid combination. “Balance” will be on their new record, On The Water, which is due out October 11th. It’s one of their most accessible songs to date, extremely catchy but still packing a punch.
