Wakey! Wakey! - "Feral Love"

1.

This Wakey! Wakey! track is awesome. You don’t hear about too many indie artists that grew up on classical music, but Michael Grubbs cites Gershwin as one of his main influences, and it makes for a really cool, unique sound. “Free Love” starts off strong with a simple melody and sparse accompaniment and slowly adds elements to form a full-bodied composition boasting some “baroque orchestral touches”. Very cool stuff. Shoutout to Gershwin.

Brooklyn-based Michael Grubbs’ project Wakey!Wakey! will release their first full length studio album Almost Everything I Wish I’d Said The Last Time I Saw You on July 2 – preceded by the single ‘Light Outside’ (June 13). This, Grubbs’ UK debut, is the culmination of a lifelong eclectic musical education coloured as equally by the anti-folk movement of NY’s Lower East Side as a childhood absorbed in Gershwin and Brahms.
