Foxtrot Zulu - Front Porch (Live)

I think it’s important to always keep a handful of songs in your back pocket that can pull you through tough times. Some of them are probably the same songs that have helped millions of other people get by, and that’s fine, but you should always keep a few that you can call your own. This is one of mine.

I’ve had this song for as long as I can remember. To be honest I have no idea where I got it, when I first heard it, and until yesterday I didn’t even know who it was by or what it was called (I always labeled it as “My House”). While randomly looking through my entire iTunes collection for this upcoming #PIGSET mixtape I stumbled across it. I Googled the lyrics and found out it’s a song called “Front Porch” by Foxtrot Zulu.

Despite knowing nothing about it, it’s always been one of my go-to songs when things get hard. Something about this one has always just made me feel a little better – maybe it’s hearing the carefree audience in the background, maybe it’s just the simplicity of it all, or maybe it’s those fucking strings (violins, cellos, etc. get me so emo). I don’t really know. It makes me feel like moving back down South to an old house with a porch. Possibly some rocking chairs. Definitely a dog with two different colored eyes. There is something deeply, almost painfully bittersweet about it.

I’ve been hearing this song for so many years I can’t even properly judge it anymore, but it means a lot to me, so I figured I’d share.
