This year’s edition of Coachella features some high-profile international artists, but it almost had one more. According to TMZ, Justin Bieber turned down an offer to headline the California-based festival in order to focus on his new album.

Despite Bieber’s absence from Coachella, TMZ added that he’s likely to headline in 2024, presumably after he’s finished his project.

The Coachella lineup is lacking in the Canadians category, featuring only Kaytranada and Chromeo, but adding Bieber to the list would’ve helped on that front.

Coachella is certainly not opposed to having Canadians headline as The Weeknd took the top billing in 2022 following Ye’s bowing out. Arcade Fire also headlined in 2014 and returned in 2022 as a surprise addition after initially being left off the original lineup reveal.

If Bieber does indeed headline Coachella in 2024—which we’ll probably only find out in about 11 months—it might mark an uptick in Canadian artists featured across the lineups.

Until then, it is possible that Bieber does sign on to headline another festival later this year, but there hasn’t been any chatter about that.

Last year, Bieber cancelled a number of tour dates over health concerns.
