New Zealand-born producer Jack Laven, aka 33 Below, has shared his new single, “Hold Tight”, a hypnotising dancefloor number that’s likely to stay with you for some time.

Laven looks to a lot of UK-born influences—particularly garage and house—opting for an emotionally driven take on those sounds, which has unsurprisingly caught the attention of Disclosure, EZ, and more.

“Hold Tight” leans more into the house and garage side of his tastes and puts extra focus on the melodics. Drafting in Atlanta-based singer and songwriter, Chrystel whose soothing vocals are chopped up and looped to make sure the track stays lodged in your ear.

Speaking on the track’s hypnotising quality, and how it all came together, Laven tells Complex: “‘Hold Tight was a spontaneous creation. I had just one day in the studio with Grant Boutin in LA, and the song pretty much wrote itself. Drawing inspiration from 4x4 UK garage and infusing it with a touch of trance music, the track combines varying genres with a few live elements, marking a unique new direction in my producing. It's actually the first time I've incorporated a guitar into one of my songs, adding a fresh layer to the sound. I love how the fusion of the tight electronic drums, emotive piano and guitar, and ethereal vocals from Chrystel all sit together.”

The video keeps things beautifully straightforward, mirroring the track’s hypnotic quality with equally dreamlike shots of the producer strolling through a field with an almost-too-perfect blue sky above him.
