From Moorish Delta 7 to The Streets, right through to MIST and Jaykae in the modern era, Birmingham has been a consistent source of talent when it comes to grime and hip-hop.

Moreso, the MCs, DJs, producers and crews 0121 has produced have given those genres more than their fair share of innovation and progression. Yet, there’s still a pervading sense that Birmingham doesn’t quite get the credit or respect it deserves, not entirely at least. That’s something Casey Bailey and Jess Munroe, co-authors of Legacy, hope to put right.

With a combination of interviews and intensive research, Bailey and Munroe chart the important contributions of the city’s greats, speaking to artists, DJs, producers and creatives from the city as well as DJs, radio hosts, photographers and documenters who’ve long championed those artists (including JP, Complex UK’s E-I-C).

Among the stars featured are Badness, Big Mikee, Bowzer, C4, Deadly, Despa, Hitman, Invasion Crew, Jaykae, Lady Leshurr, Malik, Mayhem, MIST, Preditah, RM, Remtrex, RoxXxane, M1llionz, SafOne, Sox, Stardom, Swifta Beater, Trilla, Vader and many more.

Legacy 0121 is out now via PUNCH with a five-part mini-documentary series running alongside. You can buy the book here.
