Jay-Z is a man of the people. He always has been, and always will be. And recently Hov decided to release the sequel to his personally curated TIDAL playlist "Songs for Survival," titled "Songs for Survival 2."
The TIDAL-exclusive collection comes with 17-tracks from artists like Eddie Kendricks, Jay Electronica, Marvin Gaye, Nina Simone, Public Enemy, Syl Johnson, Tracy Chapman, Tupac, and Hov himself (“Young, Black & Gifted Freestyle,” Jay Elec's "Ghost of Soulja Slim"). The playlist feels like it acts as an oral history told through music of the ongoing battle black people have had with the United States. "Songs for Survival 2" is the second installment of Jay's playlist series, with the first dropping back in 2016 and featuring Kendrick Lamar, Nina Simone, Outkast, and more.
Jay-Z has been busy on the social activist front as well. He lent his private jet to one of Ahmaud Arbery's family attorneys, Lee Merritt, to make sure they were able to attend the first court hearing on Thursday afternoon.
Hov recently released a statement last Sunday where he urged Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison to persecute the cops who murdered George Floyd to the "fullest extent of the law."
Jay-Z also had Roc Nation take out full-page ads in multiple newspapers across the U.S. in support of protesters. The ad is a letter dedicated to George Floyd, and it appeared in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Minneapolis Star Tribune, and elsewhere.
