Demi Lovato isn’t one to shy away from honesty.

In a new interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the singer talked about how much she loves Rihanna, confessing that she wants to make out with the Anti singer. “Look, I just want to make out, ok?” Lovato said, laughing. “I mean, we could do a song together too. Maybe we make out in the video.”

Later on, Lovato opened up about her struggles with substance abuse and her eating disorder.

She and Ellen discussed how the singer’s previous management team would “control” her diet to the point where she wasn’t allowed to have birthday cake. She also said they would take all the foods with sugar from her dressing rooms and take her phone so she couldn’t order room service.

Lovato explained that these tactics actually led her to relapse. “Little things like that, it led me to be really, really unhappy,” she said. “My bulimia got really bad and I asked for help and I didn’t receive the help I needed.”

So, when Lovato was six years sober, she relapsed. “I felt completely abandoned, so I drank,” she said. “That night I went to a party and there was other stuff there. And it was only three months before I ended up in the hospital with an OD. Ultimately, I made the decisions that led me to where I am today. It was my actions that put me in the position that I’m in. And I think it’s so important that I sit here on this stage and tell you at home or you in the audience or you right here that if you do go through this, you yourself can get through it.”

Lovato overdosed in July 2018 reprotedly as a result of Oxycodone laced with fentanyl. She was found unconscious in her home and was reportedly given a life-saving dose of Narcan, which is administered during narcotics overdoses. The singer went to rehab in August and canceled the rest of her world tour to recover.

Lovato is using her music to spread positivity. The video for her new single “I Love Me” dropped at midnight Friday.

Lovato spoke about the track during an interview with New Music Daily on Apple Music, saying the title was pretty self-explanatory.

“This track is all about loving yourself. You know? It's, it's obviously it's called "I Love Me," she said. "So it's (laughs) not hard to figure that one out, but- um, but it is. It's an anthem, and it, it discusses, you know, in the, in the beginning of the song, it talks about, and the second verse as well, but it talks about how hard we are on ourselves and this, the negative self-talk. You know, how easily we can listen to that. But when is loving yourself gonna be enough?”

"I Love Me" arrives as Lovato works on her seventh studio album. She told NMD that the project was nearly completed earlier in the year, but she and her team decided to do some reworking after her performances at the Grammys and Super Bowl.

"... After my performances, you know, we kinda went back to the drawing board and thought, 'What is this album missing? What, uh, are we, am I really putting out the best work that I possibly can?'" she explained. "So, I'm just taking a little bit more time with it."
