In a follow-up message, she expanded on the initial thought, writing, “To all my trendsetters, I’m sorry I let you down. I don’t have it in me to keep pushing. I feel like I’m brain dead. I pray that everyone continues to keep setting trends and striving. Don’t know when I’ll be back but I don’t even want to think about it. I love you for life. -coi.” The second tweet has since been deleted.
Coi’s critics have been relentless in the past year. Most recently, in November, she was slammed for being a “TikTok artist,” to which she responded, “Call me a tik tok artist, but just so you know. When an artist drops music, it gets uploaded to TikTok as well. Whether they chose to promote and have fun with the record, that’s on them… but I got a family to feed, ima get mines regardless.”
She had also reacted to the same critique a month prior, saying, “Tik Tok artist goes straight to Billboard every time so call me a Billboard artist whenever you wanna throw Tik Tok in there.”
Last summer, Coi was put on blast for her New York Rolling Loud set, where she performed in front of what appeared to be a listless crowd. But this time she decided to focus on the positive, tweeting, “Just wanna say thank you for all the love I get. I’m so loved by so many people it blocks out the hate. You love me I love you.”
