SZA fans have been waiting for a follow-up to 2017’s Ctrl for what feels like forever, but now, the singer-songwriter has indicated that her next record could arrive this year.

“My album’s, like, finally ready to go, more than I’ve ever felt before” she told Vogue in a brief interview at the Met Gala on Monday. “So this summer will be a SZA Summer.” Unlike her appearance at the Grammys—where she won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her feature on Doja Cat's "Kiss Me More"—SZA wasn’t sporting her crutches at the event.

SZA hasn’t released a new solo track since “I Hate U” last year, which she initially released on SoundCloud in August, 2021 to an enthusiastic response. The track eventually made its way to streaming in December after it gained a lot of success on TikTok, but it’s unclear if SZA has any plans to include the song on her currently unannounced second album.

SZA last provided an update on the record at the Grammys. "It’s probably my most unisex project yet, if that makes sense. It’s for everyone," she told Billboard.

Over the past week, SZA announced and released her first-ever collaboration with Crocs, which includes limited-edition takes on both the Classic Clog and the Classic Slide. Less than a year before the collab dropped, SZA asked her fans on Twitter, “If I made some custom Crocs would u buy em?”
