It's a sad day for music lovers north of the border. Organizers of the WayHome Music & Arts Festival have announced that the summer event will be going on hiatus for the foreseeable future. Republic Live, the team behind the massive three-day affair, told media outlets today that they will take the calendar year to assess the future of the popular concert series.
Republic Live co-founder, Eva Dunford, told WayHome fans that the company is taking some time to retool the festival. "After much consideration, we have made the difficult decision to push pause on the 2018 edition, to allow us to reflect, re-assess and re-imagine the event," said Dunford. "We want to thank all of our fans, artists, staff, vendors, sponsors, suppliers, partners, and community members. We sincerely appreciate your support and participation over the last three years to create a truly special festival."
WayHome was initially launched in 2015 and quickly grew in popularity thanks to an impressive lineup of Canadian talent and international superstars. This year's edition was headlined by awesome acts like Frank Ocean, Solange, and Imagine Dragons, and featured local standouts like Clairmont The Second, Jazz Cartier, and Daniel Caesar. The Ontario-based party had a considerable amount of attendees in its first couple of outings, but reports indicate that this year's dwindling numbers may have contributed to the hiatus.
On the festival's official web page, WayHome coordinators were optimistic for an eventual return. The site's banner currently reads, "this isn't goodbye, just see you later."
