50 Cent and G-Unit Say They Own Young Buck’s Music Catalog Amid Royalties Dispute

Nearly two years after Young Buck filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy, 50 Cent's record label G-Unit is claiming to have ownership over the rapper's music catalog.

The ongoing dispute between 50 Cent and Young Buck over the latter’s music royalties continued this week, with G-Unit claiming to have ownership over Buck’s entire catalog.

The dispute between both parties stems from a Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing by Young Buck in January of 2020 over debts owed to 50 Cent, his ex-girlfriend, the IRS, and other creditors. Last month, Buck reached a settlement with the bankruptcy account after he was previously accused of trying to hide $24,228.14 in royalties.

50 Cent, however, claims that money is owed to him and G-Unit, which is still the owner of Buck’s catalog.

“Under the clear terms of the Recording Contract, the G-Unit Property belongs to G Unit because it owns all of the works comprising such property and [Young Buck] is only entitled to a percentage of the net proceeds G Unit earns from licensing such works,” 50’s lawyer, William N. Helou, explained in a recent chat with AllHipHop. “Therefore, the Motion to Compromise should be denied.”

Helou added, “Here, the compromise is not fair and equitable because the Trustee’s settlement with [Young Buck] is premised on the incorrect assertion that the G-Unit Property is property of the estate. It is not.”

Per AllHipHop, 50’s team is pushing to deny the compromise between Young Buck and the estate. The judge has yet to make a decision on the matter.

The court battle is just the latest beef in the G-Unit members’ ongoing feud, and arrives several months after Buck asserted once again that he ghostwrote for 50.

“I wrote 50 music, bro. I done wrote full songs where you n****s is listening to 50 rap my words. Word for word,” Buck claimed in an interview with Revolt TV in April. “The n***a might change one here or a line here, but when you listen to the ‘Too Rich’ song, that’s just off of my head, that’s just one I inked from top to bottom.”
