Kodak Black caught heat this week after he decided to weigh in on the deadly coronavirus.
The 22-year-old rapper, who has remained behind bars since 2019, shared a since-deleted Instagram post in which he laughed off the global pandemic and its harmful effects on the music industry: "Lol I ain’t missing out on nothing Right Na...U Rap N***az can’t make no money Right Na," he wrote. "...This Corona shit need to last til I Get Out."
DJ Akademiks also shared a clip of a voice memo in which Kodak is allegedly heard making the ill-conceived statement, presumably through a phone.
Kodak recently pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. The rapper now faces a two- to seven-year sentence.
The coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc on industries around the world. The music entertainment has taken a significant hit, as festivals and concerts have been canceled or postponed in an effort to minimize the spread of the virus. Though the decisions were made in the interest of public health, analysts say the pandemic could cost the music business $5 billion.
"The cancellation of 2020 shows so far because of coronavirus is likely to cost the music industry tens of millions of dollars," Mark Halstead, partner at the financial risk and business-intelligence firm Red Flag Alert, told Forbes. "However, this lost revenue could quickly escalate and rise to hundreds of millions of dollars within weeks if more artists cancel shows and cancellations extend further into 2020."
