Stars packed into the New York City tri-state area for Monday's MTV Video Music Awards which took place in Newark, New Jersey. But it appears that New York native, French Montana didn't receive the homecoming he would've liked.

According to TMZ, Montana was leaving the Amish Market in Tribeca on Tuesday morning, when he got into a shouting match with his security guard on the crowded Manhattan sidewalk. Initially, it was reported that the assailant was a man in a red shirt. But after more footage was obtained, it became clear that this man was merely a bystander who was trying to film the exchange between Montana and his security guard. In a clip shot by the previously assumed agitator, French can be seen yelling at the security guard, then slapping the phone out of the man's hand, after he asks French to "hire" him.

It's unclear what sparked French's outrage. But in another video of the incident captured from a different angle, French can be seen yelling at multiple members of his team. The rapper was also urging his crew to attack a man in a blue shirt flannel who was standing close to Montana. There was also a man in a suit who was preventing the rapper and his team from getting a physical altercation started. New York City Police were eventually notified of a fight taking place at the Amish Market and responded to the scene. Per TMZ, French is not interested in pressing charges against the agitators but he is upset that his security let someone get that close to him.
