Before we get his album Free Spirit, or the short film of the same name, Khalid is keeping the momentum rolling with another new song.
Thursday, Khalid dropped off the Dernst "D'Mile" Emile II-produced "My Bad." In the latest Free Spirit cut's chorus, Khalid wisely promotes the practice of putting one's phone on silent. Phones should always be on silent. Anyway, stream the new song up top via YouTube and/or grab it on Apple Music, Tidal, Spotify, etc.
The Free Spirit short, billed as a "special companion film" to the album, will be premiered April 3 in partnership with Trafalgar Releasing, who have previously contributed their global event distribution methods to Coldplay's A Head Full of Dreams and BTS' Burn the Stage.
Khalid—who conceived the short's story with director Emil Nava—is joined in the cast by Judah Lang, Dizzy Face, Edi Gathegi, Estefania Preciado, and Jahking Guillory. The album arrives two days later on April 5.
"Eastside," Khalid's 2018 collab with Benny Blanco and Halsey, broke into the Billboard Hot 100 last month. Looking back on the sessions that ultimately birthed the hit, Khalid pointed to the real-life friendship that informed the final product.
"I had to record my part separately, [but] it was so incredible to hear the completed song, and even more fun to get everyone together when we performed on the American Music Awards," he said last month. "It's always exciting to see a song climb the charts, but when you have done it with friends, it's even more special."
