In 2015, the Weeknd crossed over to become a complete superstar with the success of his album, Beauty Behind the Madness, both in popularity with fans and on the charts. That momentum isn't slowing down in 2016 either, as it was just announced that his song "Earned It" from the Fifty Shades of Grey film has been nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Original Song category.

The Weeknd will battle the likes of Lady Gaga and Sam Smith for the award, though it's interesting that Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth's "See You Again" didn't also receive a nomination. Check out all of the nominations for the category below, and make sure to tune into the Oscars on Feb. 28.
