7 Talking Points From Die Antwoord's Grotesque "Ugly Boy" Video

Unless you've been living under a rock recently, you'll no doubt be abundantly aware that Die Antwoord have a new video out for the latest single, "Ugly Boy".

The single is taken from their new album, Donker Mag, and has already sparked its fair share of controversy in the media for its use of black face. It's not clear what point they were trying to make, but this isn't the first time they've done it.

It started with their appropriation of Afrikaans black culture and vernacular and then continued with Yolandi’s slightly more subtle "blacking up" in the video for "Fatty Boom Boom". In an interview with 2 Oceans Vibe, Ninja said: "God made a mistake with me. I'm actually black, trapped in a white body."

We take a look at the other talking points from the new Die Antwoord video.

Well, probably not but the song itself samples Aphex Twin's "Agesispolis" and Yolandi’s AFX hoodie certainly suggests a connection of some sort. The jury’s out on what the actual point of this was but the South African duo do have form.

Cara does her best to out-weird the South African duo but unsurprisingly Die Antwoord are in a whole other league.

OK, so they’re not actually in the same shot and they’re almost certainly not back together but it’s still pretty cool seeing them in the same video together.

In a bid to complete their “people who were all over MTV2 in the early 2000s” lineup, Flea from the Chilis makes one of the least bizarre cameos in the video.

One of Atlanta’s creepier duos also crop up, paying homage to their cultural elder siblings with some grotesque posing and, of course, those grills.

In his most serious role yet Jack Black wears a tracksuit, smokes a cigar and throws some serious shapes.

In a passing reference to Game of Thrones, Ninja (who directed the video) and Yolandi steak their claim to the Iron Throne.
