We're still wrapping our heads around the idea that the mainstream music scene in America is trying to boo love dance music. You'd think this shit hadn't even started in America decades ago. We've also been seeing the likes of A$AP Rocky working with Skrillex, and Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" getting play on some "urban" radio stations. Sooner or later, you might need to bone up on your EDM knowledge. But where do you start? How do you add some gems to these conversations about dubstep and Diplo without sounding like a fool? DAD has something just for you.
Mind you, this isn't the end-all be-all of EDM knowledge. We've been into the dance music scene in many forms for the last two decades. What we're going to do here is give you a basic outlook on a number of current genres with in the scene, with some footholds in the rap scene for you to maneuver on. We're not in this to try to convert you, but if you have a passing interest in what EDM is about, here are some familiar sounds and some basic facts about today's scene. We've got your back, fam.
