A Florida nurse was removed from her position after she posted images of a baby born with a birth defect, according to the hospital.

Sierra Samuels, a neonatal intensive care unit nurse, was fired after officials at Jackson Memorial Hospital learned of her post on Sept. 8, a hospital spokesperson told NBC News.

The baby was reportedly born with gastroschisis, which causes the baby’s intestines to be visible from outside the body, and Samuels shared images of the child on her social media account. She was fired on Sept. 15 after being placed on administrative leave, as an investigation took place.

The nurse captioned the photos of the baby with “My night was going great then boom!” and “Your intestines posed to be inside not outside baby! #gastroschisis,” according to WFOR-TV.

Samuels’ actions would usually be considered a violation of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), as she shared personal health information of a patient online.

“Employees who violate these privacy rules, despite being educated, are subject to disciplinary action including suspension or termination,” a statement from Jackson Health System read.

All employees reportedly go through privacy policy training and breaches of privacy are taken seriously, according to Jackson. Samuels was employed by Jackson since 2016.
