That Viral Nazi-Bashing Tiki Torches Sign Is Sadly Not Real

First of all, duh. Second of all, the sign's sentiments still ring true. Nazis are assh*les.

Nazis are assholes. That is not in dispute. I mean, just look at these assholes:

Peter Cvjetanovic, a white nationalist, is upset that this photo of him has gone viral. So be nice: dont retweet this tweet 1000s of times. pic.twitter.com/mpeyXH86jm

Definitely assholes. Still, a certain viral photo you may have seen careening its way across social media is sadly, and perhaps obviously, not real.

As much as I would like to live in a world where businesses minced no words on their tiki signs, that's not quite the case just yet. Though the photo was shared on Reddit and Twitter without context (or, it seems, credit), this fine work of Nazi-mocking art actually comes from the mind of Funny or Die's senior social content producer Dashiell Driscoll.

Driscoll spoke with the Houston Chronicle Tuesday, revealing the entire joke took less than 90 minutes to put together. The sign—the bottom half of which has some choice words for your buddy Steve with the guacamole—was printed out at Funny or Die HQ Monday. Driscoll then hit up a hardware store to find some torches similar to those used by neo-Nazis in Charlottesville.

"The fact that the protesters had to go the hardware store and pick up these tiki torches felt like a target OK to pick on," Driscoll said Tuesday. The photo, the best of 10 snapped by Driscoll, was taken at a store in Hollywood. In hindsight, Driscoll added, perhaps a watermark would have been a good idea. "At the end of the day, it's so cool to write a joke to see that got shared by so many people," he said. The photo is now one of Funny or Die's most-shared Facebook images.

Anyway, look at this:
