An explosion occurred in a commercial building in Scarborough overnight, leading to major structural damage, though no injuries were reported.

Firefighters arrived at the scene just before midnight and found “obvious signs” that an explosion had happened in the building, CBC News reports.

Photos of the explosion showed that a large part of the building had collapsed by the time crews arrived, but by then they had only found a “small amount of flame and smoke.”

TFS is currently dealing with two multiple-alarm fires - a 3-alarm residential fire on D'Arcy St (Spadina Ave/Dundas St W) & a 2-alarm commercial/industrial fire on Finchdene Sq. in Scarborough. Multiple occupants rescued on Darcy St. - being assessed & treated. ^dv #Toronto

“It’s a pretty catastrophic explosion,” Platoon Chief Robert Hewson said. “There are at least two or three units involved. But when you get into the structural damage it is going to extend further and further out.”

Hewson could not immediately confirm the cause of the fire and explosion.

Officials confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.
