Solange and her creative agency Saint Heron have launched season one of their Saint Heron Digital Library that aims to uplift and amplify the voice of Black creators.
The library contains 50 free book titles that people can rent on a first come, first serve basis. The books will then be distributed and are asked to be returned within 45 days after borrowing.
“The Library will build upon Saint Heron’s urgent mission to preserve, collect, and uplift stories, works and archives that amplify vital voices within Black communities and it is the first digital library solely focused on promoting Black voices,” the agency explained of the project’s mission.
This first season runs from Oct. 18 to the end of November and the titles were guest-curated by Rosa Duffy, founder of the Atlanta-based community bookstore For Keeping Books.
When discussing the importance of the library, Solange emphasized how the Saint Heron Library will act as a pillar for Black voices and an archive for creative projects.
“The Saint Heron Library continues the work we have been building by preserving collections of creators with the urgency they deserve,” she explained. “Together we seek to create an archive of stories and works we deem valuable. These works expand imaginations, and it is vital to us to make them accessible to students, and our communities for research and engagement, so that the works are integrated into our collective story and belong and grow with us. I look forward to the Saint Heron library continuously growing and evolving and over the next decade becoming a sacred space for literature and expressions for years to come.”
