GOP nominee and self-proclaimed man of the people Donald Trump was not a family man until his children were 21, according to Trump's first wife Ivana Trump. If her allegations are true, it would explain Donald's awkwardness with children (see: when he met Little Miss Flint and broke the Internet with a photo, and a similar encounter with "nervous" children Thursday).

The New York Daily News reported Ivana made the remarks at the Lifeline benefit Wednesday, which raised money for pediatric cancer. "I brought up the children singlehandedly," Ivana reportedly told guests after they complimented her on the poise the Trump kids have shown while campaigning for their father. Ivana had three kids with Trump: Ivanka, Donald Jr., and Eric.

Expanding on her comment, Ivana told a New York Daily News insider: "Donald wasn't really interested in the children until he could talk business with them. When they turned 21, I handed them over to him and said 'Here's the finished product, you can take them from here.'"

Ivanka, Donald Jr., and Eric have been involved in Trump's campaign, even appearing together in an ad that got ripped to shreds and memed. Ivanka, playing perhaps the biggest role of the three, introduced Trump at the Republican National Convention before he accepted the nomination. For his part, Donald Jr. has caused controversy on the campaign trail by accusing President Barack Obama of plagiarizing him after Donald Jr. was accused of plagiarizing his own RNC speech. In another controversial instance, Donald Jr. compared refugees to Skittles.

When asked about Trump's campaign, Ivana said she actually told him to run for office in the '80s. Ivana also said she's been watching the debates and has given Trump advice. "I tell him to stick to the big issues and to forget about Trump University and Miss Universe because no one cares," she said. "He's going to bring change and no one is going to change him."
