For someone who has called for the firing of athletes who kneel to protest racism during the National Anthem, Donald Trump sure seems to have some trouble with the song himself. During Monday's college football game in Atlanta, he was caught on video struggling through lyrics most Americans learn in kindergarten.
"We are fighting for our farmers, for our country, and for our GREAT AMERICAN FLAG. We want our flag respected—and we want our NATIONAL ANTHEM respected also!" he tweeted ahead of the game. Apparently, his definition of "respect" doesn't include "get the words right."
He seems to be doing OK with the word "hailed," but he can't be bothered to sing "at the twilight's last gleaming." He finally gets it together enough to open his mouth at the end of the line, but only to form a word that is most definitely not "gleaming."
Another video shows him completely blanking on "through the perilous fight / o'er the ramparts we watched / were so gallantly streaming / and the rocket's..." until he picks back up at "red glare." Nevertheless, he seems pleased with his performance, finishing off with smug smile. God bless America.
