Poll Shows Clinton and Trump Tied in Election-Defining Swing States

Hillary Cilnton and Donald Trump are neck and neck in the country's three biggest swing states.

Here's something to think about as Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump likely prepare to face off in this year's Presidential election: The probable nominees are apparently tied in the states that have historically swung the election. According to a survey done by Quinnipiac University, the candidates are currently about even in Florida, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

But those are just three states, right? Yes, but no candidate has won the election since 1960 without taking the majority of them.

If Bernie Sanders were the Democratic nominee, this would be a different story. He beat Trump by at least two percentage points in all three states' polls. Clinton, on the other hand, lost to Trump in Ohio with 39 percent of votes to his 43 and is only slightly ahead in the other two states with 43 percent to his 42.

This means that, as we head into the election, the nominees will be neck and neck in the states that matter the most. According to the poll, Trump is doing better than Mitt Romney did in Pennsylvania four years ago, and the candidates are faring about the same as the last election in Ohio and Florida.

"Six months from Election Day, the presidential races between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump in the three most crucial states, Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania, are too close to call," Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac Poll, said.

Clinton lost Democratic primary elections to Sanders in Nebraska and West Virginia on Tuesday, while Trump swept the two states on the Republican side.
