VIDEO PREMIERE: Stan Walker Honours His Heritage With Epic Visual For "New Takeover"

The singer says this one's for all the underdogs and outsiders.

Aotearoa's own Stan Walker has just dropped the video for his latest single "New Takeover". The song and its visual treatment focus on Stan honouring his Maori culture, his heritage and what it represents to him.

The impressively shot video was filmed on location at Auckland's Muriwai and Bethells beaches, and features a traditional performance from the local Hawaiki TŪ collective. Stan has said he hopes he's been able to convey the fact this is a coming-of-age for him – that he's wiser, more honest and a lot more outspoken than ever before.

The track is also birthed out of a place of frustration, and a desire to speak to his people: "It’s a song for all the underdogs, the minorities, the outsiders and the indigenous people who don’t have a platform to speak or express who they are and their truth", he says.

Stan's remarkable eight years in the music game have led him to serious success with eight New Zealand Music award wins, and over 100,000 records sold. His latest release is just as considered and affecting as the rest of his back catalogue, and is a perfect way to set things off for his next project. You can check out the video for yourself above.
