Sofia Prantera’s London-based, genderless streetwear label Aries has unveiled a first look at its Spring/Summer 2023 collection, titled Taking Off.

Inspired by the Miloš Forman film of the same name, the seasonal range is presented through five character archetypes—the Camden Punk, ‘90s Casual, Teenage Romantic, Cultist and Trust Fund Baby—which have been reimagined through the label’s signature lens.

Presented in a series of imagery and a short film shot by long term collaborators David Sims and Douglas Irvine, the Camden Punk character leads the line-up in denim skate shapes, acid wash treatments and dirty peach overdye. This fictional archetype can be also be found in cotton twill cargo styles, the crackle camo print and mesh moto tops as well as tattoo-inspired graphics and Rottweiler motifs.

Other characters, including the the ‘90s Casual and The Teenage Romantic, are informed by high school jock and prom queen stereotypes, which translate into new varsity jackets, military surplus-style shirting and a “No Problemo” graphic. The Cultist and the Trust Fund Baby are the final two characters forming the collection: throughout the imagery, the former archetype can be seen sporting references to Ozzy Osbourne as well as classical and religious references, while the Trust Fund Baby is defined by sharp tailoring, acid-coloured stretch lace and aged unisex silk pyjamas.
