It looks like the United States will show no mercy towards those who attempt to sell or bring into the country counterfeit goods. In the past two months alone, the NYPD has seized $2.2 million worth of fake luxury products, Facebook has begun cracking down on ads leading to counterfeit items found on its website, and earlier in December, Operation "Bad Gifts" went down.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection investigation, which took place from Dec. 2 through 4, saw the seizure of hundreds of fake designer goods at John F. Kennedy Airport's International Mail facility.
“This is something that CBP officers and import specialists are on the lookout for all the time ... We’re always right there on the front lines, protecting the American consumer and the US economy from counterfeit products entering the US," said public affairs specialist Anthony Bucci to NY Post.
Authorities discovered 203 fake products, including sneakers, handbags, sunglasses, and fine watches, all knockoffs of brands like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Michael Kors, Chanel, and Coach. If real, the items would have been worth more than $450,000, authorities estimate.
