Dr. Martens has reunited with Samuel Ross’ A-COLD-WALL* for a third collaborative release that’s set to drop later this week. This time round, the duo have partnered to rework the 1461 Bex silhouette in an all-black colourway.
Like the previous team-up, this new offering focuses on functionality and minimalism. The 1461 shoe arrives in a black leather upper and features details like metal rivets and ACW’s branding printed on the laterals. In addition to that, the silhouette’s traditional lacing system is replaced with a zipper, further emphasising Ross’ industrial-inspired aesthetic.
Discussing the inspiration in an interview with Highsnobiety, Ross said: “Respectfully re-shaping was important to us, introducing a dynamism reflective of the artists that have spearheaded Dr. Martens historically without deteriorating the existing IP. The silhouette, which is made to be practical, has been reworked. Welding, re-forming, moulding the upper though it was a block of clay, or a soft piece of lead came to mind.”
Rounding out the co-release is a sole unit that has been modified in a semi-translucent, clear rubber tone. The ribbed AirWair-equipped piece is contrasted with the brand’s iconic yellow stitching that can be found running along the silhouette’s bumper.
The A-COLD-WALL* x Dr. Martens 1461 Bex in black is set to release at 3 p.m. GMT on November 4 on ACW’s website, before a wider release is set to come on November 6 on Dr. Martens’ online store.
