Zaha Hadid's Gorgeous New Wine Bottle Design for Leo Hillinger

Renowned architect and designer Zaha Hadid has created the wine bottle design for Austrian vintner Leo Hillinger. Only 999 of the bottles have been produced, using NURB-based design software and cast-iron molding processes. It features a an unconventional concave shape, that allows the bottles to interlock, as well as a custom-molded case for each bottle.

Of the design, Hadid said: "The elongated volume of the bottle has been derived from the profile of liquid droplets. A continuous spatial curve was then projected onto the bottle's surface, defining areas for the concave indentation and suggesting the waves created when droplets break a liquid's surface."

The winemakers were equally pleased with the complex bottle. “Noble, elegant, full of fine shapes and curves, as well as with edge,” they said in a press release. “This is the design by Zaha Hadid. Thus, it is—as the wine itself—complex and fascinating.”
