Video Shows Cowboys Fans Throwing Objects at Players After Loss to 49ers in Wild Card Game

Fans at AT&T Stadium were very obviously miffed after the Dallas Cowboys were upset by the San Francisco 49ers in Sunday's NFC Wild Card Game.

A game that began with fans knocking into each other to get the best seats in the house ended just as chaotically for the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night.

Down 23-17 with 14 seconds remaining in the match, Dallas QB Dak Prescott opted for a run and essentially ran the clock out. As a result, the Cowboys, who were favorites, once again disappointed their massive fan base when they lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Wild Card match-up.

After the game, fans at AT&T Stadium were spotted tossing items at Cowboys players as they left the field.

A tweet from NFL Network’s Jen Slater, uploaded shortly after the game, features a video showing what appears to be Cowboys fans chucking various objects at the home team after the loss. Defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence is pictured shielding himself from a flying object with his helmet.

For those saying it was directed at refs, that would be equally awful but fan who sent it to me said absolutely at players and they were disgusted by it when I asked… to absolutely make sure that was the case https://t.co/J3WHogtqJF

Worst and most bizarre final play I've seen in decades. Some heads will roll over this play call. #Cowboys49ers #CowboysNation #49ers pic.twitter.com/AWkpGodPoT

Prescott was asked about the fan behavior after the game, and condemned them when he thought they were throwing items at players. But when it was mentioned that they were actually throwing things at the refs, Prescott seemed to approve.

Dak Prescott asked about fans throwing debris after game. When thought fans throwing things at Cowboys and struck Demarcus Lawrence, he expressed disappointment. Then he was told fans threw trash at officials.

“Credit to them then,” Dak said. pic.twitter.com/Ir3jmlKCkn

“Credit to them them,” he said.

As for the game itself, the 49ers started strong, before Dallas’ Amari Cooper caught a second-quarter touchdown pass for what would be the team’s only points until the final quarter. An eventual interception and additional points here and there, followed by the fourth-quarter Dallas blunder, locked in the W for the 49ers—despite Dallas scoring a promising TD in the fourth.

But by the end, the upset seemed inevitable for fans.

Most people expected a long playoff run after the Cowboys’ promising start, which might explain owner Jerry Jones’ mood after the game.

#Cowboys owner Jerry Jones described himself as extraordinarily disappointed, said he couldn’t remember being more disappointed by a loss. When I asked about potential of a coaching change, he said, “I don’t even want to discuss anything like that at this particular time.”

“I don’t even want to discuss anything like that at this particular time,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told ESPN’s Ed Werder after the game, when asked about a potential coaching change.
