Back in the day, off-road enthusiasts had to build up their rigs to withstand the torture of a weekend on the boulders. Nowadays they still do, but the team of engineers at Toyota Racing Development (TRD) has made it easier to drive straight off the dealer lot and up to the summit.
The 2015 TRD Pro Series Tundra, Tacoma, and 4Runner models have just been revealed, and they are not messing around. These aren’t just some plastic bits and decals like you might find on today’s CUVs (okay, there are some decals); this is serious bolt-on factory performance.
All Pro Series models get upgraded Bilstein shocks, TRD-tuned springs, skid plates, and blacked-out TRD alloys. The Tundra and Tacoma receive a generous 2-inch lift in the front, with the 4Runner sitting 1.5-inches higher than stock. TRD piping has found its way into the exhaust of both trucks, guaranteed to shake windows up and down the street.
Design cues have also been turned to the limit, as well, if the plastic bits are what you’re into. You’ll find solace in the throwback “TOYOTA”-emblazoned front grille, chunky TRD shift knob, and rear decals aplenty. Expect these to roll out in Fall 2014.
