Long before becoming an internet phenom, Steve Dangle interned for MLSE and during that time, one of the paychecks the company issued him bounced.

On a recent episode of The Steve Dangle Podcast, Dangle told the story of the time a paycheck MLSE had given to him couldn't be cashed in at the bank.

"So I used to be an intern at MLSE for school but they paid me $300 a month," Dangle said. "I bring in my $300 check, give it to the teller, they take it to the back and they come back ad they hand me the check back and they go "I'm not supposed to do this, but I'm going to give you this check back because it bounced."

Dangle's co-hosts then erupt in laughter, baffled at the fact that the highest-valued sports organization in Canada couldn't pay its interns.

Dangle then assumed that the teller knew it came from MLSE and told him to try again next week.

"That was the day I learned MLSE has more than one bank account," Dangle added.

"I don't think Auston [Matthews] has ever been like 'Excuse me...'" he says while mimicking the action of waving a check around.

This wouldn't be the last time MLSE encountered financial troubles either. This week, a report from CBC News claims that the city says MLSE owes over $1 million in taxes, though the company is disputing it.
