It’s a debate that now feels as old as time, Michael Jordan vs. LeBron James—which one is the GOAT? This year’s No. 1 draft pick Cade Cunningham just weighed in and, given his age, his answer won’t surprise you.
“I’ve seen all the Michael Jordan stuff, dude is different,” Cunningham told Fansided’s Marc Carman. “I can’t argue with the fact that you think he is the GOAT, but in my eyes I say LeBron.”
That means Cunningham will get the chance to go up against his GOAT this season, when his Detroit Pistons face off against LeBron’s Lakers.
The Jordan vs. LeBron debate gets sparked every few months in the media, and every few weeks in your local barbershop, corner store, or general community gathering space. Cunningham’s answer makes sense considering when he was born and what team he was drafted to.
Cunningham was born in 2001 and drafted to the Detroit Pistons, the natural enemies of Jordan’s Bulls in the 90s. LeBron will be entering his 18th season, and Cunningham likely watched James through his entire career as he trained to make it to the NBA.
