Nike Teases the Future of Flyleather

Nike teases the future for its sustainable Flyleather material. The brand says it provides a great opportunity for unique details like lasering and embossing.

Making its initial debut in 2017, Nike's Flyleather is more sustainable, more lightweight, and five times stronger than traditional leather. While the material has been used sparingly across select releases, the brand has big plans for Flyleather moving forward.

Flyleather is created using a hydro process that fuses recycled leather and synthetic fibers to create a material Nike claims is comparable to the real thing. Pairs that have donned the material up to this point include the Cortez, Air Force 1, Air Jordan 1, Air Max 90, and Tennis Classic.

The manmade material can possess all the the qualities of regular leather from full-grain to smooth, and the reverse side even mimics suede. Nike also says that the material is a perfect canvas for unique treatments like lasering, embossing, and colorful all-over prints.
