It's obviously well-deserved and one can only imagine the amount of retro heat that Melo is gifted on a daily basis. It wasn't always like this, though, for the NBA superstar, who actually had an interesting gateway to Jordans when he was younger.
In a recent interview with High Snobiety, Melo revealed that he didn't buy his first Air Jordans until his senior year in high school because he just couldn't afford them when he was a kid. Those first pair of Js ended up being a custom pair of "Olive" Air Jordan IXs.
Melo said the IXs were "all black," but in 2002, Jordan Brand never released a murdered-out IX. Instead, a pair of "Olive" IXs dropped, and if you recall, stores were actually customizing the olive part of the sneaker with black dye because, well, the colorway wasn't selling as-is.
The trend eventually caught on and Jordan 'heads everywhere were going H.A.M. with the black dye. And it looks like Melo jumped on it, too.
Melo also revealed that his most elusive pair of Jordans is the "Doernbecher" II.
