Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe is facing criticism after he made racist jokes about comedian Peng Dang, who introduced him to an audience in Austin. He’s also been dropped by talent agency WME, TMZ reports

Dang shared the clip of the moment on Twitter, which he captioned, “Last week in Austin, I got to bring up Tony Hinchcliffe. This is what he said. Happy Asian (AAPI) Heritage Month!”

Hinchcliffe, who is a regular collaborator with Joe Rogan and has worked as a writer for Comedy Central Roast, came onstage after Dang introduced him.

“How about one more time for the filthy little fucking c***k that was just up here,” Hinchcliffe said.

The racist comments were met with some laughs, although it didn’t appear there was any punchline to what he said. “All you fucking race traitors are hooping and hollering. I was back there watching you puking in a fucking bucket,” he continued, before employing an offensive stereotypical accent.

“Oh we make gunpowder. Oh you want extra soy sauce. Oh you borrow money from us! And you guys are just eating it up, you fucking pussies,” Hinchcliffe said.

In an interview with TMZ, Dang spoke about the experience and explained he has no idea what Hinchcliffe’s intention was.

“I’m from China, I’ve been in this country for almost 11 years,” he said. “I lived in Alabama, Georgia, Texas… and I had never heard anybody call me that C word. So I was very, very shocked when I heard it.”

He added that prior to Hinchcliffe’s comments, he said the audience responded well to his set, which focused on stopping Asian hate. He mentioned that “some of the audience were visibly uncomfortable” following the introduction of Hinchcliffe, “especially the female audience members.”

Before Hinchcliffe uses the defense of “it’s only joke,” he should probably be reminded that jokes are typically funny. At least this way he’ll get to talk about “cancel culture” the next time he talks about DMT and aliens with Joe Rogan. He has yet to respond to reaction.
